Project Overview
The client needed to address elevated AC interference risks where their pipeline ran adjacent to an active utility corridor—conditions that created the potential for unsafe touch voltages, accelerated corrosion, and non‑compliance with industry integrity standards. To ensure personnel safety and long‑term asset protection, they required a site‑specific, data‑driven mitigation strategy supported by precise modeling and dependable field execution. To meet this need, LSC’s Corrosion Engineering team developed a comprehensive AC interference model and tailored mitigation design, followed by a full multi‑mile field installation executed by the Cathodic Protection Construction (CPC) team.
Deliverables:
- Site Visits; AC Mitigation Design; Pre-Issued for Bid Constructability Design Walk; Design Packages; Onsite Management; Project Scheduling; AC Mitigation Installation per drawings and specifications; Horizontal Directional Drilling; Daily Field Reports; Post-Installation Inspections; Commissioning; As-Builts; Compliance and Quality Assurance; Construction Final Report

Design Strategy
Lasting Operational Excellence: The combination of technical rigor and disciplined field execution set the foundation for durable system reliability.
Collaborative Effort
By keeping both design and construction in‑house, LSC enabled faster communication, deeper technical alignment, and a streamlined workflow from modeling to installation. This cross‑disciplinary integration resulted in a more efficient, cost‑effective mitigation system and ensured the final installation delivered exactly what the engineered solution intended.
Execution and Quality Assurance
The CPC team installed 16,250 feet of mitigation cable, 19 new PCRX units, and transferred 13 existing PCRs into updated enclosures and switches—maintaining continuity and improving system functionality. Throughout construction, LSC implemented continuous quality checks and conducted leadership site visits, addressing any issues in real time to ensure consistent, high‑standard execution.
Challenging field conditions—including variable pipe depths, rocky terrain, and weather‑related delays—required rapid adaptation. The team collaborated closely with the client, resolving depth‑related installation issues within a day and maintaining progress without compromising safety or design integrity.
