Project Overview

The client needed to replace 42 miles of 30‑inch liquids pipeline running through rugged, rocky terrain and corridors tightly constrained by existing utilities. The project required precise engineering to navigate difficult geotechnical conditions, maintain system reliability, integrate with existing valve infrastructure, and complete permitting and design on an accelerated schedule. To meet these demands, LSC delivered full multidisciplinary engineering design services for the replacement line. This included the design of four new mainline valve sites on the new segment and three new valve sites on the existing line to support upstream and downstream tie‑ins. LSC also engineered modifications to nearby launcher and receiver facilities, ensuring seamless integration and improved operational performance across the system.

Deliverables:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Pipeline Engineering
  • Trenchless Engineering
  • Cathodic Protection
  • AC Mitigation Design
  • Geotechnical Investigation

Driving Project Success on an Accelerated Timeline

Working under a compressed schedule, LSC collaborated closely with the client and environmental consultants to produce permit‑ready design packages. The team supported route selection by coordinating directly with the owner/operator and engaging with local, state, and federal agencies—reducing regulatory friction and helping the project advance efficiently.

Field Management That Improved Safety and Reduced Construction Risk

Given the challenging geology along the route, LSC led an extensive geotechnical program to ensure safe, constructible design decisions. The team coordinated contractors, completed onsite inspections at more than 80 locations, and used specialized methods to accurately determine bedrock depth. This information proved critical for blast planning and field safety throughout construction.

Corrosion Protection Strategies That Strengthened Asset Integrity

Leveraging deep expertise in cathodic protection and AC mitigation, LSC developed comprehensive corrosion protection design packages for the replacement pipeline and associated facility locations. These solutions enhanced long‑term asset reliability and reduced future maintenance risk.

Quality Processes That Ensured Precision and Reliable Deliverables

To maintain consistency across a large, fast‑moving program, LSC applied robust quality and document‑control procedures—reviewing and delivering more than 450 project documents. This disciplined approach ensured clear communication, accurate information flow, and dependable deliverables at every stage of the project.
