Project Overview
The client needed to protect a major midstream oil terminal expansion from increased corrosion risk as new infrastructure was added to an already complex site. With buried piping, tanks, valves, pumps, and other below‑grade assets requiring reliable protection—and with existing CP systems already in place—the client needed a cathodic protection design that was precise, cost‑effective, and fully integrated across both new and existing facilities. To meet this challenge, LSC gathered comprehensive field data and engineered a targeted, high‑performance CP system that safeguarded critical assets across the expanding terminal. Our work enhanced long‑term asset integrity, reduced corrosion exposure, and ensured full compatibility with the facility’s existing protection systems.
Deliverables:
- Engineering Design
- Construction Drawings
- Cathodic Protection Installation
- System Commissioning

Strategic CP System Design Driven by Field Insights
LSC identified that the client’s historical reliance on distributed anodes was effective but unnecessarily expensive for the project’s scale. To reduce costs while maximizing performance, LSC performed its own field testing and engineered a customized CP solution using a strategic mix of:
Each was positioned to optimize protection of priority assets. After finalizing the design, LSC installed and commissioned the entire CP system—delivering a long‑term, reliable corrosion‑mitigation strategy built on data‑driven engineering.
Proactive Coordination That Protected Schedule and Budget
Throughout execution, LSC worked closely with the client to keep the project on schedule and within budget. Active oversight of horizontal directional drills (HDDs), rapid troubleshooting during guided bores, and real‑time communication minimized field disruptions and avoided costly delays. Our disciplined coordination ensured installation progress met performance expectations at every phase.
Verified Performance and Elevated System Integrity
Post‑installation testing confirmed that all protected piping achieved more than 850 mV OFF, surpassing industry minimum benchmarks and validating the effectiveness of the CP system. The result was a durable, compliant, and cost‑efficient protection solution—rooted in strong field data, optimized engineering, and high‑quality execution.
